The bath after the birth is a unique and great moment for the new dads. Five of them agreed to give us some of this magic. Emotion guaranteed!
"THIS IS THE MOMENT WHERE I HAD THE FIRST TRUE PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH MY BABY"
What did you feel at that moment?
- I was totally subjugated It was the first time I held our daughter in my arms. It was I who took Apolline from her mother's womb, Lætitia, to carry her to the bathtub. I took over ... I was a little afraid of doing wrong. Fortunately, the team was there. I was shown how to hold the child by putting my hand under his armpit and resting his head on my arm.
Do you keep bathing him?
- Yes, this is the gesture I learned at the clinic that I continue to do... I give him bath at the weekend. She is happy in the water, she is relaxed ... This is the moment when I had the first real physical contact.
What would you say to a dad who hesitates to give the first bath?
- Je would say that he should not force himselfbut if he feels like it, it would be a shame not to overcome a slight apprehension. The bath is part of a whole. With first aid given to the newborn, it is an extension of the discovery of the child.
Thomas, dad of Apolline, 3 months.
